It's encouraging to find out that an effort or an action have been contagious, that others have become committed, and that great projects have come to life.

Abbé Pierre

The MAÏA GROUP's Corporate & Social Responsibility has taken shape side by side with the Abbé Pierre Foundation.

For its hundredth anniversary, the MAÏA Group gave 1 million kW/h of its renewable energy production to the Abbé Pierre Foundation, thereby placing a focus on social and humanitarian actions to benefit the underprivileged.

Sustainable developpement, a value to be shared

Christophe Gruy, CEO of the MAÏA GROUP, decided to work with a French association that is both symbolic and popular : the Abbé Pierre Foundation.
The MAÏA GROUP thus participated, along with 10% of the French population, in the humanitarian actions advocated by their favorite personality, Abbé Pierre.
The Foundation received a check corresponding to 1% of the MAÏA GROUP's annual renewable energy production, i.e. 1,000,000 kilowatt hours, representing the annual electricity consumption of 1500 individuals.

Abbé Pierre Foundation

The objective of the Abbé Pierre Foundation is to ensure that the underprivileged have access to decent housing and a life worth living.

  • To act by creating accessible, sustainable housing for the underprivileged, and by fighting against unacceptable housing. The Abbé Pierre Foundation receives, advises and orients the poorly housed, and intervenes abroad to support housing renovation and construction programmes.
  • To innovate by proposing new types of habitat adapted to fragile individuals, by helping residents to participate in improving their home, and by encouraging them to control their energy expenditures.
  • To challenge public opinion and the authorities, and prepare proposals to improve the situation of the poorly housed, notably through its "Annual report on the situation of the poorly housed".

Some key figures :
In 2007, over 15,000 people were received at 30 facilities called "Solidarity Boutiques", 20 boarding houses were supported, 494 homes were built or renovated. In poor countries, 3744 individuals were re-housed thanks to the construction of 624 homes. The Abbé Pierre Foundation employs roughly 300 people in France, two-thirds of whom are volunteers.
